Food at Preschool

Most of you will have heard the term Kosher. This relates to a code of food preparation and permitted species for eating within Jewish law. Kosher laws can be confusing, but at Kadimah Preschool we make it simple for you.

What are the boundaries?

In order to respect this basic tenets of Judaism, we ask that you do not send any meat products (this includes seafood, and chicken or any meat flavoured chippies) with your child.  Fish with scales and fins including salmon and tuna is permitted.

What food do you recommend?

We encourage fresh food and healthy eating choices. It is a good idea to make ‘little sandwiches’ and cut fruit or vegetables into small bite-sized portions. It is important your child has enough to eat for both morning tea and lunch and it is essential that they have a bottle of water to drink at school each day.

In accordance with Ministry of Education rules, food cannot be brought into the Preschool to share including baked goods.

What we wear

Comfortable clothes that are suitable for both messy play and movement and shoes that allow the child to move and climb safely.

Please bring in a complete set of (seasonal) clothing on your child’s first day. These will be stored in a bag (supplied by the Preschool) on your child’s hook, and can be left there to be used as needed.

Health and Medication

If your child is unwell please keep them home until they have recovered. Children do not learn if they are unwell or sick and germs spread very easily be-tween children. If your child needs to take any kind of medication (applied to the skin or taken orally) at Preschool, we can only administer medication with a parent’s signature so please make sure you have signed the form before leaving that day. It is very important to let the Preschool teachers know if your child has a medical condition and especially if they require a medical plan of action. All teachers holds a current First Aid Certificate.

By law we are required to ask for proof of immunisation or information about your child’s immunisation status when they join Preschool. A copy of your child’s immunisation certificate or a letter stating they are not immunised on enrollment.

All children must be fully toilet trained when starting at Kadimah Preschool. We also ask that you always ensure your child has a full spare change of clothes in their bag in case they have any accidents.
